Ambarawa since the days of the Dutch East Indies is a military area, so the King Willem I wanted to build a Railway Station in order to make it easy to transport troops to Semarang. So on May 21, 1873 Ambarawa Railway Station was built with a land area 127 500 m2. Heyday Ambarawa stations are worn asWillem I, as a discontinued operation is a major railway station Ambarawa Kedungjati Semarang. And in 1976 to cross Ambarawa Secang Magelang also Ambarawa Parakan Waterford.

Closing Ambarawa Railway Station, then on the 8th of April 1976the Governor of Central Java with Head of the Railway Service Enterprise Supardjo Rustam exploitation Soeharso decided tochange the station to the Railway Museum Ambarawa by collecting 21 pieces of locomotives that had contributed to transporting troops in combat, especially Indonesia.
Ambarawa station has an old locomotive that is still able to trainup the mountain with jagged, serrated one train in Indonesia whoproudly able to walk with a slope of 30 degrees / ml to Bedono station within 9 miles to within 1 hour and a capacity of 80 people. Travelers can enjoy the panorama on the way of Mount Merbabu Ungaran and towering expanse of swamp and dizziness at the bottom.
