SRAU BEACH - Surfing, Snorkeling, Hiking, and Fishing
Hidden behind a row of hills 25 km west of Pacitan (East Java, Indonesia), Srau Beach is a surfer’s heaven. You will not find any crowd in this beautiful beach because the location is quite far from the downtown. The closest village is some kilometers away. Do not expect any hotel or restaurant. There are only some small food stalls providing snack, instant noodle, tea, and coffee. When YogYES asked about the possibilities to spend a night around this beach, a stall keeper suggested us to stay and sleep in a small mosque a hundred meters away from the beach.
This beach hides 3 surf spots with challenging waves for at least intermediate surfers. The first spot is located at the back of the ticket portal and often calledThe Portal. The second one is Pancingan, located under the reef cliff on the west hill that is often used as a fishing place by local fisherman and also many people from out of town who often come to spend their day fishing. Meanwhile, the third spot is Pandan, located just behind Pancingan Hill.
Srau's type of wave is reef break; means that the waves are created by the sea waves hitting the reefs. The bottom of the beach is also dominated by reefs. That is why surfers should be more careful. November until February is the best time to surf and chase barrels at Srau Beach.
Not only supplying barrels for surfers, Srau is also offering the beauty of white sandy beach and crystal clear water. It is also the perfect location for snorkeling and enjoying the beauty of marine biota. Getting bored of taking a walk on the beach? Try to go up to the hill on the right. Hiking on this reef hill and enjoying the amazing ocean view will immediately refresh your mind. You can also join the fisherman and other people who are fishing from the reef cliff of this hill.
